74 - Hammock Cove

Hammock Cover is a legacy deposit of muddy sand with shell material.  The core penetration recovered 5.1 feet of dredged material and an additional 0.6 feet of original salt marsh sediment.  This points to a single use site that has reverted to an island of uplands along the waterway channel.   Vegetation cover is mostly Phragmities, with other weed plants interspersed among the dominant species.  The sediment composite returned a 48.8% value for sand content with the remainder shell, silt and organic mud.  This is a legacy site that should remain undisturbed.
