Project 1:

Atlantic & Burlington County Sites

82 - Nacote Creek #3

The four Nacote Creek sites are natural New Jersey coastal plain uplands hills that project above the present salt marsh surface elevation.  Each is presently surrounded by marine salt marsh plant growth and its corresponding organic-rich silt sediment.  Coring showed typical coarse sands and gravel found elsewhere on the Atlantic County upland surface typical of the Bridgeton Formation gravelly sand that is the youngest geologic unit of the coastal plain.  Nacote Creek #3 is the largest island of the group and is located off the main tidal channel of Nacote Creek.  It rises about 7 feet higher than the marsh surface and is another of the natural islands exposed surrounded by marine deposits along the Atlantic County lagoonal environment.
