Project 1:

Atlantic & Burlington County Sites

233 - Motts Creek #1

The two Motts Creek sites are natural New Jersey coastal plain uplands hills that project above the present salt marsh surface elevation.  Each is presently surrounded by marine salt marsh plant growth and its corresponding organic-rich silt sediment.  Coring showed typical coarse sands and gravel found elsewhere on the Atlantic County upland surface typical of the Bridgeton Formation gravelly sand that is the youngest geologic unit of the coastal plain.  Motts Creek #1 is the largest of these natural topographic high spots that emerge from the salt marsh surrounding them.  The site is heavily vegetated with pine-oak forest and habitat to a variety of forest animals.
