Project 1:

Atlantic & Burlington County Sites

234 - Motts Creek #2

The two Motts Creek sites are natural New Jersey coastal plain uplands hills that project above the present salt marsh surface elevation.  Each is presently surrounded by marine salt marsh plant growth and its corresponding organic-rich silt sediment.  Coring showed typical coarse sands and gravel found elsewhere on the Atlantic County upland surface typical of the Bridgeton Formation gravelly sand that is the youngest geologic unit of the coastal plain.  Motts Creek #2 is a pair of small islands that emerge from the salt marsh surface near small tidal creeks.  Lower in elevation, these sites do not support as dense vegetation as seen at Motts Creek #1.
