Project 1:

Atlantic & Burlington County Sites

236 - Collins Cove #2

The pair of Collins Cove sites are presumed to be associated with the construction of the Garden State Parkway during the mid-1950’s.  Collins Cove #2 is an enormous area also confined by a very low sediment berm with numerous breaches that allow near normal tidal flow.  This site is covered with Phragmities because of its size and the level of restriction to tidal flow is sufficient to keep the average salinity below the lethal dose for this plant.  This site borders the uplands so the berm stops at the southern edge at the forest edge.  There does not appear to be any significant deposit of dredge material unless it consisted of layers of fine material not dissimilar to the existing marsh deposits.
