Confined Disposal Facility – CDF

100 – Long Point Thorofare CDF

Long Point Thorofare CDF #100 is a 18-acre NJDEP owned confined disposal facility.  It is located in the Westecunk Creek area of Eagleswood Township at the east end of Bay Avenue. The confined berm walls of the disposal facility are approximately 5-7ft in elevation (NAVD88).  The eastern boundary of the CDF which is adjacent to Barnegat Bay does not have a berm confinement.  Moderate to heavy vegetation consisting of brush and Phragmites covers the entire site.  GPS point data was collected for the entire site and a triangulated irregular network (TIN) provided a calculation of 226,707 cubic yards of material within the CDF.  Eleven sediment cores were taken previously as part of NJDEP permits for dredging Westecunk and Parker Run Creeks and those analyses show over 84% silt in all eleven samples.  The creek bottom samples also were highly rich in silt.

The four core logs above cover the range in sand/silt percentages among the 11 separate samples.  All penetrated the dredge material within the site to the salt marsh below.  The area surrounding the CDF does not possess sediments subject to dredging likely to contain high percentage of sand.
