Unconfined Disposal Site
101 – Westecunk
Creek #1
Along the northeast
bank of the Westecunk Creek channel, parallel to Bay Avenue, are a
series of six unconfined disposal sites. Westecunk Creek
#’s 101, 102, and 103 consist of three marginally confined areas of salt marsh
with incomplete to complete berms. Sites
(104 to 106) are unconfined smaller sites located further upstream. The best confinement walls appear to have
been built around site #102, with the northwestern half of site #101 also
completely enclosed. Remnants of berm
walls appear in aerial photographs to show some attempt to merge both halves of
site #101 into a larger facility. Each
of the sites appears to be side cast legacy sites that received material from
the adjacent channel. All of the sites are very lightly vegetated and all
directly border the creek channel. Sites #101 to 103 are primarily salt marsh
with some confinement. Sites #104 to 106
appear to be sandy and have no confinement.
No effort was expended in sampling or surveying any of these sites.
