Project 1:

Ocean County Sites

Unconfined Disposal Site

263 – Lovelady Island

Lovelady Island is a small unconfined disposal site (UDS) in Loveladies, Long Beach Township. The site is small, symmetrical and moderately vegetated.  It located on Loveladies Harbor Marsh, directly across the channel from Oceana Drive.  The site appears to be side-cast material placed there from the dredging of the channels that were intended to continue development expansion onto this parcel of land.  Note the symmetry of the channels and how the geometry of the lagoon placement follows the parts completed.  This was never intended as a dredge material storage location.  Work was halted by the 1970 NJ Wetlands Law and the lawyers and environmental consulting firms could never achieve the permits needed to complete the project.  GPS and sediment data were not collected for the site.
